PrecisionBiotics® Cultures

What are PrecisionBiotic® cultures?

PrecisionBiotic® cultures are unique bacterial cultures that have been specifically researched and rigorously tested by PrecisionBiotics®.

All our products contain bacteria that occur naturally in the human gut and are at home there.

We have created special formulations which are stable, ensuring that none of our products need refrigeration.

Is it worth taking several bacterial strains together?

We’re often asked why our products contain only 1 or 2 types of bacteria, instead of a mix of 5 or even 10 types.

As scientists, we know that mixing multiple bacterial cultures can mean their individual qualities are affected. Different cultures behave in different ways and may even have competing effects. Cultures of animal origin are not native to the human gut so we do not add them.

It is the specific strain of bacteria and how that culture interacts with your unique gut bacteria that determines whether you will notice a difference.

Our focus is investing to find the best bacterial culture.

We produce a pure formulation, with no added bulk yoghurt or animal cultures, to provide a PrecisionBiotic® product that we can guarantee and that healthcare professionals can recommend.

We also guarantee that the number of bacteria is the optimal amount for each PrecisionBiotic®.

Alflorex® Immune Safety

Are there side effects with Alflorex® Immune?

If you have any concerns, please contact us by calling our Careline (021) 206 6012 or emailing us ask@precisionbiotics.com

Can Alflorex® Immune be taken with antibiotics?

As with most food supplements, a dose of antibiotics could inactivate the Bifidobacterium longum PB-VIR™ bacterial culture in Alflorex Immune.

If you are prescribed a course of antibiotics, we advise that it is best to take the dose of the antibiotic at a different time of day to when you take your daily Alflorex Immune tablet.

I am taking another vitamin supplement with vitamin D or taking vitamin D supplement. Can I still take Alflorex® Immune?

Alflorex® Immune contains 400 international units of vitamin D (i.e. 10 μg cholecalciferol or vitamin D3), which is 200% of the nutrient reference value (NRV). The daily dosage of vitamin D supplements (sometimes with calcium) prescribed by GPs or available in shops is also often 400 international units of vitamin D. This is the daily amount recommended for the general population for general health and in particular to protect bone and muscle health.

In a few people, taking too many vitamin D supplements over a long period of time can cause too much calcium to build up in the body, causing health problems. The HSE Ireland website states that taking 25 μg (i.e. 1,000 international units) or less a day of vitamin D supplements is unlikely to cause any harm.

Some people have medical conditions that mean they may not be able to safely take as much. If in doubt, or concerns, you should consult your doctor.

Can Alflorex® Immune be taken with other supplements or with medicines?

There are no known interactions with other supplements or with medicines.

If you have a serious medical condition or have questions before taking Alflorex® Immune food supplement, please consult your doctor.

What happens if I take too many Alflorex® Immune tablets?

We recommend taking just one tablet per day.

The  PB-VIR™ culture is safe and is not likely to lead to any health consequence if you do take more than one, however taking too many vitamin D supplements can cause side effects.

Can Alflorex® Immune be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Yes. There is no evidence available that Alflorex® Immune tablets should not be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
